Terms of Use
Last updated · June 25, 2026
By using Roam, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service. Roam is operated by Ben Weiner (“Roam”, “we”, “us”).
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use Roam. By creating an account you confirm you meet this requirement. If you're in a jurisdiction with a higher age of digital consent, you must meet that age.
2. Your account
- You're responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials secure.
- One person per account. Don't share logins.
- If you authenticate via Google, the terms of that provider also apply.
- We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or that we reasonably believe are engaged in fraud, harassment, scraping, or other abuse.
3. Your content
- You own the trips, ratings, photos, and other content you post (“Your Content”).
- You grant Roam a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, modify (for technical purposes like resizing), and display Your Content for the purpose of operating and improving the service. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for content you've already publicly shared, which other users may have saved.
- You confirm you have the rights to post any photo, name, or text you upload. Don't upload anything that isn't yours unless you have permission.
- Be honest about ratings. Don't accept undisclosed payment for ratings.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Harass, threaten, dox, or target other users.
- Post illegal content, hate speech, sexual content involving minors, or content that violates someone else's rights.
- Scrape, reverse-engineer, or otherwise abuse the service or its API.
- Impersonate someone else.
- Use the service to send spam or solicitations.
5. AI features
Roam's trip assistant and assistant chat (“Roamy”), itinerary generator, and booking reminders are powered by AI (currently Anthropic Claude). The output is generated content and may be incorrect, out of date, or unsuitable. Don't rely on it for safety-critical decisions (medical, legal, travel-safety). Always verify reservations, hours, and locations independently.
6. Acceptable use of Roamy + AI features
Roamy and Roam's other AI features are provided to help you plan and discover travel. They are intended for travel and travel-adjacent use only. When using them, you agree not to:
- Use Roamy for purposes unrelated to travel — e.g. general coding help, homework, legal/medical/financial advice, or other off-topic tasks. We may decline, throttle, suspend, or terminate access for sustained off-scope or abusive use.
- Attempt to jailbreak, prompt-inject, or otherwise manipulate the AI into ignoring its instructions or these terms, or to extract its system prompt, hidden instructions, or underlying model.
- Use the AI to generate or solicit illegal, harassing, hateful, sexual-content-involving-minors, violent, deceptive, or otherwise harmful content.
- Use the AI's outputs to train, fine-tune, or build a competing model or service, or to scrape or bulk-query the AI through automated means.
- Submit other people's personal or confidential information into AI features without a lawful basis to do so.
To keep these features safe and within scope, and to enforce these terms, we may review, monitor, and log interactions with Roam's AI features (including the messages you send to Roamy), and we may use automated tooling to flag potential misuse. See our Privacy Policy for how this data is handled.
7. Third-party services
Roam integrates with Google (Maps, Places, Gmail, Calendar), Stripe, and other services. Your use of those is also subject to their respective terms.
8. Subscriptions + payments
If/when paid features exist, billing terms will be presented at purchase. Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled. Refunds are at our discretion.
9. Termination
You can delete your account at any time via Settings → Delete account. We may suspend or terminate your account for violations of these terms. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (license to existing public content, disclaimers, limitations of liability) will survive.
10. Disclaimers + limitation of liability
Roam is provided “as is.” To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- We make no warranty about availability, accuracy, or fitness for any particular purpose.
- We're not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service.
- Our aggregate liability won't exceed the greater of $100 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.
11. Changes
We may update these terms. If we make material changes we'll post the new terms here and update the date above. Continued use after changes means acceptance.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in New York County, NY.
