Privacy Policy

Roam is operated by Ben Weiner (“Roam”, “we”, “us”). This policy explains what we collect, why, and how to control it. We're a small operation; if anything below is unclear, email support@roamtravel.ai.

1. What we collect

When you create an account or use Roam we collect:

  • Account basics: email, name, handle, optional bio, profile photo.
  • Travel content you create: trips, places, ratings, photos, notes, itineraries, saved places, follows, comments, messages, likes.
  • Onboarding preferences: home city, travel interests, budget tier, traveler type, pace, dietary needs.
  • Optional integrations (only if you connect them): Google Gmail (read-only access to scan for booking confirmations within your trip dates), Google Calendar (read-only access to scan for events within your trip dates), Google Places (to look up venue details). We never modify, send, or delete email or calendar events on your behalf.
  • Location: only when you tap “Use my current location” on the home-city field. We send the lat/lng to a third-party reverse-geocoder (Photon, OpenStreetMap-backed) to translate it to a city name. We do not continuously track your location.
  • Device + usage: IP address, browser/device type, and feed-event signals (impressions, clicks) that we use to rank content for you. Web Push subscription endpoints if you opt in to notifications.
  • Payment info (if/when you subscribe): processed entirely by Stripe — we never see your card number.

2. How we use it

  • To provide the core service — show your trips, rate places, surface a feed of content from people you follow, generate AI itineraries and booking reminders.
  • To make recommendations — your taste signature (your highest-rated places) and the people you follow drive what shows up in your For You feed and what the AI suggests.
  • To send notifications — only the kinds you allow (push, in-app inbox).
  • To prevent abuse and keep AI features safe — rate-limit AI calls, detect spam, and review, monitor, and log interactions with our AI features (including messages you send to the Roamy assistant), sometimes with automated tooling, to flag and act on misuse and enforce our Terms of Use.
  • We do not sell your data to anyone. We do not run advertising against your data.

3. Who we share data with

Roam is built on top of third-party services. Your data is shared with them only to the extent necessary to deliver the feature:

  • Supabase — our database + storage + auth provider (US/EU regions).
  • Vercel — hosting + analytics.
  • Anthropic — the AI model that powers the trip assistant, the Roamy assistant chat, the itinerary generator, and booking reminders. Prompts may include a digest of your profile + recent trips + places and the messages you send to Roamy, never your password or payment info.
  • Voyage AI (when enabled) — embeds your taste signature into a vector for similarity ranking.
  • Google — Maps, Places, Gmail, Calendar APIs, OAuth.
  • Stripe — payments.
  • Resend (when configured) — outbound transactional email.

Each of the above has their own privacy policy; we recommend reviewing them.

4. Your rights

  • Access — Settings shows everything we have on you that you didn't produce yourself.
  • Correct — edit your profile, trips, places, ratings, photos at any time.
  • Delete — Settings → Delete account permanently removes your profile, trips, places, photos, follows, comments, messages, notifications, and engagement data within 30 days. This is irreversible.
  • Export — email support@roamtravel.ai and we'll send you a JSON dump of your data within 30 days.
  • Opt out of notifications — Settings → Notifications.
  • Disconnect integrations — Settings → revoke Gmail / Calendar / Google access.

5. Data retention

We keep your data as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we erase your personal data within 30 days, except where we're required to retain it (e.g. payment records for tax purposes). Aggregated, de-identified data (e.g. “X total trips planned this month”) may be retained indefinitely.

6. Children

Roam is not intended for users under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe we have, email us and we'll delete it.

7. Changes to this policy

We'll post material changes here and update the “last updated” date at the top. If the change is significant we'll also notify you in-app.
